Percent Off Calculator
This percent off calculator finds the sale price and dollar savings from an original price and a discount percentage. Enter both below.
This calculator applies a known discount forward to find the sale price and savings. If you already know the sale price and want to work backward to the original price, use the Reverse Percentage Calculator instead. If you have two prices and want to find the discount percentage between them, use the Percentage Decrease Calculator.
Formula: Savings = Original × (Discount ÷ 100); Sale Price = Original − Savings

The formula
Savings = Original × (Discount ÷ 100)
Sale Price = Original − Savings
Worked example
A jacket costs $79.99, marked 25% off. What do you actually pay?
Savings = 79.99 × (25 ÷ 100) = $20.00
Sale Price = 79.99 − 20.00 = $59.99
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the original price from a sale price and discount?
That's the reverse of what this calculator solves. Use the Reverse Percentage Calculator, which works backward from a final price and a percentage to the original price.
How do I find what discount percentage was applied?
If you know both the original and sale price and want the percentage between them, use the Percentage Decrease Calculator instead.
Do two stacked discounts add together?
No — they compound, not add. 20% off followed by another 10% off is not the same as 30% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so the combined effect is smaller than simply adding the two percentages.
Does this include sales tax?
No, this calculates the discount only. Sales tax is normally applied to the discounted price, not the original price — check your receipt or local tax rules for the exact order used at checkout.
